“You could be my right hand man.” “I’ve seen what you do with your right hand. No thank you.”

Year One drops on Friday, and Jack Black and Michael Cera have been making the requisite prerelease press rounds. Amped as I am for this movie, I have to be honest: Jack Black is already pissing me off. I’m a fan of Cera’s unavoidable awkwardness, but Black’s tendency to innundate audiences with no less than flippant douchebagery can be mildly annoying. Alexa Chung couldn’t handle him (awkward), and he let loose the f-bomb on David Letterman last night. I enjoyed him in The Holiday, Tropic Thunder and Be Kind Rewind, and I hope that this movie lives up to expectations, but I’m not sure that I’m ready to sit through 90 minutes plus of Black’s obnoxious showboating. I also get the feeling that I need to brush up on my biblical history before going to see it. The same previews have been playing for so long I am afraid that the movie won’t amount to more than a few hilarious clips, and thus fall short. Let’s hope that it lives up to the hype!
