“Seen on poster at rally: Angry Mob”

i hate protesters

To say that town hall meetings in the aftermath of Obama’s proposed health reforms have gotten out of control is the under exaggeration of his term thus far. The presence of people bearing arms near to presidential events is alarming, even though, as Time reports, the Secret Service is seriously downplaying it. Personally, I can’t stand guns, but I understand that it’s within people’s rights to bear arms as per the Second Amendment. Former Secret Service agent John Petro, a 23 year veteran, says that although it is unlikely that people will actually attempt to shoot the president, it changes the atmosphere of events for the worse. One packing citizen claimed that he was simply exercising his Second Amendment rights for fear of quickly losing them. Jon Stewart, forever the people’s pundit, has ridiculed this trend on his last couple of shows. David Cross came on miming a health reform protester armed via potato gun, and Stewart’s August 18th show got even more in depth with “Barrel Fever.”

punk-granny

Hopefully this isn’t indicative of an American made craze; if 80 year old grannies start bringing AK47s to town hall meetings for “protection,” we’ll know the shit has hit the fan. What I have gained from these incidents is a greater knowledge of how the gun control system works (or, in my opinion doesn’t); 11 states in the US are permissive open carry, meaning that all “non-prohibited” citizens can bear arms WITHOUT A LICENSE. I get the right to keep and bear arms, but this seems a little ridiculous to me. I take back my original statement; that was just the biggest under exaggeration of Obama’s term thus far.
